Today in class we watched a video about how browsing websites works. The video explained HTTP, HTML, and the security of websites. It explained that if a website is secure, hackers have to go through another layer to access private information. HTTP is the "language" used between computers and servers. They use this for when you try to access a website. The computer sends a get request and the server finds the website for your computer to use.

This video explained what packets, routing and reliability are. It explained that all information sent on the internet is sent in packets. One thing can take more than one packet depending on the size. Routers make sure that packets travel along the cheapest route available. Cheapest does not refer to money, but the the quickest and most efficient route. It was surprising to see that the same thing can take more than one packet and be reassembled at its destination.
We tracked our media consumption for an entire day and recorded the results. The visuals showed that I spent a lot of time using each of the categories we used. Compared to the infographic we looked at in class, I spent a larger percentage on communication. I also spent a much smaller percentage on interactive consumption. I spent a similar amount of time on creation and a little less on passive consumption. I was surprised by how much time I spent online, especially when I added in passive consumption and the time I used it for school.
Today in class we watched a video about being a digital citizen. Digital citizenship is different than being a citizen of a country. Being a digital citizen is mostly about what you do and how you act online. It is important because being a good digital citizen involves being smart and considerate. This is important because it helps make sure people think before they make a mistake online or say something mean to someone else online.
The video we watched today was called "The Internet: IP Addresses and DNS". This video explained what IP Addresses, Domain Name Servers, and Protocols are and how they work together. When you type in a Domain Name Server to find a website, the computer uses an IP Address to locate it, which works universally because of Protocols. It was interesting to see how much thought had to go into everything when inventing the internet.
